About JJ’s Blessed Hands

You love them. But you cannot always be there.

There comes a time when the people who spent years caring for you begin to need more support themselves.

You want to know they have eaten. That someone checked in. That they are safe, comfortable, and not spending the day alone.

Susan Shears-Charles understands those questions because she has lived them too.

WHY WE EXIST

Care should make life easier for the whole family.

JJ’s Blessed Hands Compassion Care was created to provide practical, dependable, non-medical support for ageing adults in Grenada, while giving their families greater clarity about what is happening at home.

Reliable Care

Agreed support provided around your loved one’s everyday needs and routine.

Clear Communication

Greater awareness of how your loved one is doing and whether something may need your attention.

Less Uncertainty

Fewer unanswered questions, last-minute arrangements, and attempts to coordinate everything yourself.

MEET SUSAN SHEARS-CHARLES
A lifelong connection to care

Born in Grenada, Susan grew up with her parents, one brother, and three sisters. Much of her childhood was spent surrounded by extended family, particularly her great-grandmother and grandparents.

Their love helped shape Susan’s understanding of what meaningful care should feel like:

Personal. Patient. Respectful. Human.

After moving to Canada as a teenager in 1982, Susan married and became the mother of a son with autism.

Supporting him required patience, advocacy, education, and a dependable routine built around his individual needs.

Good support is not simply about being present. It is about understanding the person, following through, noticing what matters, and creating consistency families can rely on.

WHEN ROLES CHANGE

She knows how deeply you can love someone and still feel stretched.

Caring across generations

As Susan’s parents grew older, her caregiving responsibilities expanded. After her father passed away, her mother moved in with the family in 2017.

The mental checklist never really stops

Appointments. Routines. Questions. Small changes. The pressure of making sure everyone has what they need while managing everyday life

Doing everything yourself is not always possible

Susan understood the instinct to handle everything personally because you are unsure whether someone else will provide the same patience, attention, and respect.

THE VISIT THAT CHANGE EVERYTHING
During a visit to Grenada in 2024, one question stayed with Susan.

She spent time with the ageing parents of a friend and began thinking about the gap between simply having someone present and having a dependable support system families could actually trust.

The routines Susan had developed for her son and mother in Canada had already shown her what thoughtful, organised support could accomplish.

How can older people in Grenada receive dependable support at home while their families receive greater reassurance and peace of mind?

WHAT FAMILIES REALLY NEED

The answer was not simply to have someone present.

Families needed to know that the right person would show up, provide the agreed support, communicate clearly, and treat their loved one with dignity.

Someone would show up.

Dependability matters because families build their own schedules around care.

The agreed support would happen.

Care should be structured around the person’s actual routine and needs.

Dignity would come first.

Ageing should not erase choice, preference, or respect.

Changes would be noticed.

Small changes in mood, behaviour, or physical condition can matter.

Important information would not disappear.

Families should not have to chase basic updates.

There would be less guessing.

The goal is a clearer picture of what happened and whether follow-up is needed.

LET'S TALK ABOU YOUR FAMILY
